It's definitely Henry James' best ghost story, but I' d also recommend the short stories, \The Jolly Corner\ and \The Friends of Friends.\ It isn't a ghost story, but \The Beast in the Jungle\ is an incredible story about a lurking and horrific fate that the narrator knows is coming to him.
