Every Friday, we here @ Del Rey Spectra will place a 50 page excerpt of a selected title on Suvudu. Whether it be science fiction, epic fantasy, alternate history, horror, urban fantasy, paranormal, the possibilities are endless.
Today our excerpt features one of the queens of the urban paranormal genre, Kim Harrsion. Her first-ever graphic novel, Blood Work, is set to publish next week and is a prequel of sorts to her widely popular Hollows series. For more on Kim, the Hollows series, and our excerpt, here’s Del Rey Spectra editor in chief Betsy Mitchell:
“July 12 marks the publication date of Blood Work, Kim Harrison’s first-ever graphic novel. It’s set in her Hollows universe in the time period prior to Dead Witch Walking, the first novel in the Hollows series starring Rachel Morgan and Ivy Tamwood.
Rachel, an earth witch, and Ivy, a living vampire, become unlikely partners in Blood Work, which follows the story of their first case together while working for Inderland Security. All the drama and the action are told from Ivy’s point of view. (As Kim’s readers know, the novels are told from Rachel’s.)
For those who have never ventured into the world of the Hollows, we’re very pleased to provide an excerpt from Dead Witch Walking, the first of Rachel Morgan’s stories. (Thanks to Kim’s publisher, HarperCollins, for the material!) Kim is up to book 9 in the series—Pale Demon came out in spring 2011—so if you enjoy this, you’ll have tons of good reading to follow!
Dead Witch Walking was named Best Fantasy by Romantic Times in 2004 and P.E.A.R.L’s (Paranormal Excellence Award for Romantic Literature) Best Science Fiction novel of 2004.”

I have this book, along with the rest of the series, and love it. Kim Harrison is a fantastic author with an excellent way with character development. A few pages into any of her novels and you have to love the main characters and supporting crew and despise the ones like Dennon. Even the ones that you love to hate evolve in ways that you’d almost not expect.
My only problem is not with Kim Harrison OR her novel. It’s with this:
“Every Friday, we here @ Del Rey Spectra will place a 50 page excerpt of a selected title on Suvudu” Last time I checked, 45 does not equal 50. It’s close, but it isn’t 50. So why not just be straight forward and say “Every Friday, we here at Del Ray Spectra will place an exerpt of a selected title on Suvudu” rather than outright fabrication of numbers?
