December is here and with it the holiday gift-giving season!
When it comes to objects, I’m a minimalist. Those authors who have been in my home know this. Though nice, I have few things. I have my signed books—some on bookcases, others on my desk. I have two pieces of artwork on my walls, both framed Michael Whelan signed prints. I don’t have a couch. I don’t have a recliner. I have a Mac on my desk, an iPad on my night stand, and a new television powered by Netflix that I watch from my computer chair when I need to decompress while doing web work.
That doesn’t mean I don’t have a wish list though. There are some really cool items out there and this is the season I begin thinking, “Wouldn’t it be neat if I had X or X or X or X?”
For the month of December I’ll post some of my own personal picks, some of which I’m sure will also excite some of you, maybe to the point you add them to your own gift wish lists!
Day 4: Death Trooper Deluxe Mini Bust

There are two things I know to be true about our universe at this particular junction of its existence:
1. People love Star Wars.
2. People love zombies.
When horror writer Joe Schreiber wrote Star Wars: Death Troopers, he did something all geeks should love automatically! He combined both Star Wars and zombies into one book filled with the undead on a derelict Star Destroyer. I loved it. If you haven’t read it and you love Star Wars, definitely try it. It’s a quick read with some of your favorite characters from the movies and I doubt you’ll be disappointed.
And with its prequel, Star Wars: Red Harvest, coming out later this month, I’m sure we’ll get another blast of reviews so you won’t have to trust my meager judgments!
At any rate, the people at Gentle Giant LTD loved Star Wars: Death Troopers too, enough to immortalize the zombified Storm Troopers in a deluxe mini bust! I saw it at San Diego Comic Con 2010, the irony of course being there were dozens and dozens of geeks shambling around the convention looking just like this Death Trooper!
So if you have a Star Wars fan in your life who also likes zombies, Star Wars: Death Troopers and/or this deluxe mini bust might be just the gift for you!
Maybe even a good double gift, since they go together so well!
Visit the Gentle Giant website at www.gentlegiantltd.com for more information on the Death Trooper deluxe mini bust as well as their work producing some of the best in figurine collecting!
See you tomorrow for Day 5!
