We don’t get too many SF/F authors touring through my neck of the woods (way down south from your neck of those same woods, presently), so when I heard that the “Smart Chicks Kick It!” tour was planning a stop not twenty miles from my home in wildest suburbia, I knew I had to be there.
With not one, not two, but seven fantastic authors pulling into town, the public was pretty excited, and turn-out was heavy. The venue, a community hall just outside of Gluckstadt, MS, was already half-full when I arrived to conduct my interview. Fortunately, my friends at Lemuria Books (a fine independent bookstore in Jackson, MS) had set aside a small room for me to speak to the authors.
I hope that you enjoy my short interview with Cassandra Clare, Jessica Verday, Kelley Armstrong, Melissa Marr, Sara Rees Brennan, Alyson Noel and Holly Black. Thanks to all of the Smart Chicks and Lemuria Books for your time.
Note: there’s an ice machine rumbling away in the background of the video. You can still understand what’s being said, but I apologize to any audiophiles among our readership.

This was an excellent interview and now that I’ve been ‘exposed’ to these authors I definitely want to read their books!
It’s great to hear these wonderful authors in their own voices, but you’re right, the background noise makes it almost impossible to hear what they’re saying. Is there any chance someone could transcribe this and you could post that along with the video? I know that YouTube allows for the addition of subtitles, which would be superb but likely too much work for some poor unpaid person
love, Love, LOVE! Excellent interview, Matt. Very disappointed they aren’t coming to Atlanta. Kelley Armstrong is one of my favorites.
