Those discussions over the end of GAME OF CAGES were the best creative disagreement I've ever had. It was the epitome of Egoless Arguing that I've tried to emulate ever since I read about it.

It was hard, no kidding, and they were difficult questions to address. But Betsy's skill and professionalism really brought me to the best book I could have written.

I wear my buttons whenever I meet with authors, but it doesn't seem to make a difference. "Cute But Dangerous" and "The Editor is Always Right."

It was fun to write, too. I should rat out my authors more often.

thanks, I love the "behind the scenes" stuff! In the teensy weensy bit of casual editing I've done, we've had similar discussions - are you sure you want this character to get killed off so easy/early, does this really meld with how you've already developed that character's personality, I need a little more exposition to understand why this characters knows what they know or chooses to do what they do.

I don't think editors get anywhere near enough credit for all the mud wrestling they have to do.

Loved the look at 'behind the scenes' and the conversation--I loved Child of Fire and can't wait to get Game of Cages tomorrow. Thanks!

That's a great peek behind the scenes of the publishing process. Child of Fire was first-rate; can't wait for the sequel!
